Weekly Edition of curated news about Digital Infrastructure
On Friday the SpaceX Falcon Heavy launched NASA's Psyche mission to travel to a metal-rich asteroid. On board was the NASA communication experiment called DSOC (Deep Space Optical Communications). This Phys.org article has a nice summary of the DSOC project, and this video from JPL discusses how this represents the first optical communication demonstration beyond the moon, showcasing a significant leap in deep space communication technology. DSOC will test the limits of data transmission more than twice the distance between the Sun and Earth.

I subscribe to the AI-powered newsletter Futureloop from Peter Diamandis (and love it!). Recently Peter released an amazing video from his Moonshots podcast where he talks with Jack Hidary from SandboxAQ about Quantum technologies, entrepreneurship, and the transformative potential of innovative mindsets.
DePIN has been on my radar recently. As a category or grouping of similar technologies DePIN stands for Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks. As this IoTeX blog post explains, DePINs are built out in a decentralized way, by individuals and companies all over the world, for anyone to use. In return, these contributors receive financial compensation and an ownership stake in the network they're building and the services they're providing (via token incentives). Immediately I was drawn to anything that integrates mapping with the concept, so exploring DePINscan.io was pretty fun. Messari has a screener for DePIN, to watch crypto assets in the category, such as Filecoin, Render (my favorite), Theta Network, ARweave, Helium, and others.
