#DigitalInfrastructure news: Iowa, AMD, Ciena, Superconductivity, Quantum, AI
Weekly Edition of curated news about Digital Infrastructure
[Link] Real estate firm COPT Defense Properties has acquired 300 acres in Van Meter, Iowa - just southwest of Des Moines. Van Meter city administrator said that “parcels purchased by COPT were rezoned “specifically to attract a data center. … It’s safe to say [the proposed development] is a data center project.” I have a few guesses as to who this data center will be for — but I imagine it won’t be long until we hear who is building there.
[Link] HPE, Dell, Lenovo, and Supermicro detail new server offerings featuring AMD’s new MI325X GPUs and Epyc CPUs. AMD released a series of new products last Thursday, at AMD’s Advancing AI event in San Francisco.
[Link] In addition to the Supermicro server (with AMD) announcement, the company also launched a complete liquid cooling solution that includes powerful Coolant Distribution Units, cold plates, Coolant Distribution Manifolds, cooling towers, and end to end management software. The company says it has delivered over 2,000 Liquid Cooled Racks since June 2024.
[Link] Next week at the OCP Global Summit Ciena will showcase high-bandwidth interconnect innovations for next-generation data center designs, including the industry’s first 448G PAM4 electrical lane measurements. They will also demonstrate something I missed the announcement for a few weeks back - a 1.6 Tb/s Coherent-Lite pluggable solution for hyperscale providers.
[Link] Terra Quantum researchers demonstrate a new type of Superconductivity with novel type III materials. Terra Quantum Group is a quantum technology company co-headquartered in Germany and Switzerland. It provides Quantum as a Service through Quantum Algorithms, Quantum Computing as a Service, and Quantum Security as a Service.
[Link] AI infrastructure company Nebius announced that it will triple the capacity of its data center in Mäntsälä, Finland. The current expansion phase will enable Nebius to place up to 60,000 GPUs at the Mäntsälä location alone, with annual revenue potential of over USD 1 billion at full capacity utilization.
[Link] Form Energy announced a $405 million Series F financing round led by T. Rowe Price, bringing total funds raised to date at over $1.2B. The funds will be used to Expand Iron-Air Battery Business and Operations.
[Link] NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang talks about the ability for x.ai to stand up their Colussus 100k H100 training cluster online in a matter of 19 days!
