Weekly Edition of curated news about Digital Infrastructure
Cisco Live! 2023 was last week. I lost track of how many announcements and press releases they had. They really put on quite an event. You can catch up on news from the Vegas show on Twitter with #CiscoLive. Probably the biggest news was about their vision for Cisco Networking Cloud to simplify IT: including a more flexible Cisco Catalyst switch stack, improved visibility into data center power and energy consumption, and new AI data center blueprints to improve performance and visibility for network operators.
AIOps platform company CloudFabrix has announced the availability of its "Macaw", Generative AI assistant, and Edge enhancements for Telecoms, Managed Service Providers, and Enterprises. The company says its Macaw assistant uses Conversational queries and Generative AI to understand the context for customers' datasets to accelerate Observability and AIOps adoption. Macaw leverages the Cloud Fabrix Robotic Data Automation Fabric (RDAF) platform, Azure's OpenAI LLM (large language model) service, and CloudFabrix's LLM to then glean insights and investigate data, compose and explain pipelines, and compose dashboards.
Digital Realty announced it has raised more than $1 billion in a share sale, with the funds to be used for expansion and paying down debt. They also sold a Texas data center for $150 million and sold majority stakes in two Elk Grove data centers in Illinois to investment firm GI Partners. Digital Realty was at the 2023 REITweek investor conference last week and also published their June 2023 investor presentation (wow - just a ton of information to sift through here).
Brainchip announced that they have partnered with system-level manufacturing and integration provider Lorser Industries to develop neuromorphic computing solutions for software-defined radio (SDR) devices. The collaboration between the two companies will use Lorser's knowledge and experience in SDR design and manufacturing, along with BrainChip's advanced neuromorphic technology, to produce innovative and intelligent solutions that improve the adaptability, reliability, and scalability of SDR devices
Data Center Frontier reports that Cyxtera Technologies has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Cyxtera, which is made up of the former CenturyLink data center portfolio, was attempting to sell or finance itself, but its debt load and the high-interest rate environment made it difficult. This increased Cyxtera's borrowing costs, making it harder for the company to become profitable. According to recent SEC filings, the company does not expect to see positive net income until 2030.
Microsoft announced the upcoming availability of its first cloud region in Italy, consisting of three data centers located in the Lombardy region. The region is a part of Ambizione Italia, a five-year, $1.5 billion investment plan that launched in 2020.
Tech Crunch reports that Nuview, a Florida startup that recently emerged from stealth, has raised $15 million in funding. Nuview says it wants to map the entire landmass of Earth on an annual basis using space-based light detection and ranging (lidar) technology.
