Weekly Edition of curated news about Digital Infrastructure
The NVIDIA GTC(GPU Technology Conference) conference was held last week, and the keynote from CEO Jensen Huang was amazing. Huang said, “we are at the iPhone moment for AI”; and NVIDIA NVDA 0.00%↑ is certainly innovating in this category… and poised to profit from it in multiple ways. The company released its next generation GPUs, AI chips and tools, DGX Cloud and cloud partnerships with Oracle, Goole and Microsoft for AI supercomputing on-demand. I just took it all in - and agree that this seems like a pivotal moment for technology - if not especially for NVIDIA. Here is some of the excellent coverage I read on the GTC news:
SiliconANGLE: Nvidia unleashes its next-generation GPUs, DPUs and AI accelerators
Data Center Frontier: Nvidia is All-In on Generative AI
Engadget: NVIDIA's big AI moment is here
HPCwire: NVIDIA announces Tokyo 1 generative AI supercomputer
A little bit later in the week of GTC news, I read this interesting article about why carriers are powering Telecom cloud services with Open Ethernet with SONiC. The SONiC (Software for Open Networking in the Cloud) Network OS was highlighted by NVIDIA and Comcast for how it can fit in to support 400 gigabit Ethernet deployments.
Always an interesting read: Uptime Institute’s Outages Analysis 2023 - data on the type, frequency, and impacts of IT and data center outages.
The Register reported that Amazon AMZN 0.00%↑ is looking (in Europe) to move from diesel to HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) to fuel the backup power generators. Sites in Ireland and Sweden would make the switch first.
HPE acquires OpsRamp. Hewlett Packard Enterprise HPE 0.00%↑ announced it was acquiring IT operations management (ITOM) company OpsRamp, and will integrate its hybrid digital operations management solution with the HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud platform.
